City Water Technology was engaged by Veolia Environmental Services to provide specialist process, project management and operations support for an emergency PFAS water treatment plant in Sydney.
Veolia required immediate support to deliver and execute the treatment of approximately 30 megalitres of PFAS contaminated floodwater. The floodwater had collected in a series of large STP maturation ponds which had restricted the plant’s capacity and ability to discharge under the environmental limits. To continue with regular STP operations, the water contained in the maturation ponds had to be stripped of PFAS and discharged according to environmental regulations.
CWT provided resources with specific water-related experience and expertise to develop, commission, optimise and operate a treatment plant capable of successfully treating up to 50kL/hr of PFAS contaminated water directly from the STP ponds.
CWT’s contribution to the project ensured that the required volume (and more!) of contaminated water was successfully treated and discharged safely to the environment. This eliminated the immediate environmental threat and restored the STP to regular operations.
