Emergency Treatment of PFAS Contaminated Flood Water
City Water Technology was engaged by Veolia Environmental Services to provide specialist process, project management and operations support for an emergency PFAS water treatment plant in Sydney.
CWT was engaged to develop a detailed design for Sydney Water’s Orchard Hills Water Filtration Plant (WFP) in conjunction with BG&E, Atlas, CPB and others. Orchard Hills WFP (built 1993) supplies drinking water from Warragamba Dam to around 260,000 customers across Penrith and the Blue Mountains. The project will add new treatment capability so the plant can keep meeting the Australian Drinking Water Guidelines when raw water quality deteriorates after major storms, bushfires, or drought.
Raw water quality in Warragamba Dam can change rapidly during extreme weather and post-bushfire runoff, affecting the plant’s capability. With Western Sydney growth, maintaining compliant supply and reliability is increasingly critical.
Construct a new facility at Orchard Hills WFP including a pre-treatment plant to remove contaminants (suspended solids, colour, algae, organics) before existing filtration. Upgrade chemical storage/handling, remove redundant assets, and complete supporting site works including pipework, access and power upgrades.
Improved resilience and reliability of drinking water supply for a growing Western Sydney population, with stronger capability to manage changing raw water quality. Helps ensure ongoing compliance with the Australian Drinking Water Guidelines during challenging operating conditions.
